Cool Roof at Library(UPV)

In this current 2020 it will be 10 years from the first Cool Roof job done by our company. In those days we sarted betting for these kind of energy efficient and sustainable systems that are nowadays an essential part of all environmental goals stablished.

There are three main concepts to understand what is a Cool Roof:

– Solar reflectance is the fraction of solar energy that is reflected by the roof surface.
– Thermal emittance is tha ability of the suface to reléase absorbed heat.
– Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) is the value that combines solar reflectance and termal emittance.

In cities, roofs cover more than 20% of the surface and their design ans installation have direct influence in the thermal capacity of the building. Roofs are responsable for up to 30% of the building energy loss.

During high temperatura seasons, the Heat Island effect rises as there is a lot more difference between the city centre and the outskirts provoking a significant increase in electric consumption and therefore a lot more pollution.

Cool Roof advantages:

Outside

– Thermal power reduction and lifetime increase of the conditioning systems
– Lifetime increase of the waterproofing system
– Reduction of greenhouse effect emissions
– 50% reduction of the building impact in heat island efecto
– Air quality improvement
– Improvement of the performance in Solar equipments
– increase of the market value of the building

Inside

– Inside temperature can drop more than 5 ºC
– Confort improvement of the living conditions in buildings
– Energy savings of around 20%
